Women's Development Programme 2001-2002

Project Funding

On 17 February 2002 Senator Amanda Vanstone, the then Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Women's Issues announced that nine projects would receive funding under the Women's Development Programme 2001-2002 project funding round.

Four national women's organisations received a total $90,000 for one-off capacity building projects to strengthen their organisation and enhance their capacity to contribute to public debate.

This capacity building funding is a key component of the Government's strategy to build a strong women's sector. It provides women's organisations with the capability to develop sustainable strategies that give them independence and the opportunity to actively contribute to the development of public policy.

As well as the capacity building projects, the Women's Development Programme funded five major projects. $230,000 was provided to fund the five major projects to contribute to the advancement and recognition of women throughout Australia.

The work and research undertaken in these projects developed services and strategies on current and emerging issues of importance to women.

The funding of these nine projects reflects the Government's commitment to enabling the diversity of women's voices to be heard and to supporting initiatives that further improve the status of women.
