United Nations Millennium Project
At the Millennium Summit in September 2000, member states of the United Nations, including Australia, reaffirmed their commitment to eliminate global poverty and hunger, to improve health, gender equality, education, and environmental sustainability and to create a global partnership for development. This commitment produced the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The third MDG is to Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women, including the specific target of eliminating gender disparity in primary and secondary education, preferably by 2005, and in all levels of education no later than 2015.
Detailed information on the Millennium Development Project can be found at www.unmillenniumproject.org/ .
